About Us
Maria Montessori School, started in 2009 at 19A,Dhammadhara Mawatha, (Maliban Road) Ratmalana, and now relocated to much more spacious location with the upgrade to International Montessori School. Situated tat 19 Walagamba Mawatha, Borupana Road, Ratmalana, Sri Lanka.
Our comprehensive Montessori program is for children aged 2.5 to 5 years old & enrollment is open to children of all races, religions & nationalities.
We accept new admissions throughout the year.
Our school building has bright and spacious classrooms, a music room, and a reading area.The unique feature at Maria Montessori School is an indoor play area specially designed to provide a clean and healthy environment for your child.
Our media of instruction is English.
School hours are from 8.30am to 11.30am.
Following the philosophy and principles of the Montessori method of education, our aim is to educate children to their full potential and prepare them for a productive happy life.
Principles of Our School
Every child is a unique person with creative potential, the drive to learn and the right to be treated with respect as an individual.
As children are profoundly affected by society and their immediate surroundings, we create an environment in harmony with the child's natural development.
Children must be given freedom to work and move around, within guidelines that enable them to see themselves as both independent and part of a group.
Montessori materials help children to explore and master their environment through activities which aid the development of the whole personality.
Children are encouraged to work at their own pace, either individually or in co-operation with others.
Children are carefully observed on a regular basis, both individually and as a group, to assist their full development.
The Montessori Day
At the Maria Montessori School each child develops at his or her own pace, in the prepared Montessori environment with the specially designed Montessori materials. Children are encouraged not to compare themselves with others but to do their very best every day. There will be an atmosphere of calm as children concentrate on what they are doing for surprisingly long periods of time. Children work individually, or in a group with a friend.
Activities cover all aspects of child development, intellectual, physical and social. Each activity is complete in itself, and activities are inter-related. We provide the children with achievable challenges throughout their time at the school, so that self-esteem is nurtured and they are encouraged to even greater exploration and learning.
Classroom
Everything in the classroom is designed to allow the child to become independent - the materials are child sized and the equipment is laid out in an orderly fashion on low shelves that are easily accessible for the children. The equipment is aesthetically pleasing and is meticulously cared for which encourages the children to take care of it too.
